And what’s worse, Jedao and Kujen are being hunted-by an enemy who knows more about Jedao than he does himself… Kujen’s friendliness can’t hide the fact that he’s a tyrant. But he has no memory of ever being a soldier, let alone a general, and the Kel soldiers under his command hate him for a massacre he can’t remember committing. Jedao carries orders from Hexarch Nirai Kujen to re‑conquer the fractured pieces of the hexarchate. And he’s the most feared, and reviled, man in the galaxy. He’s a teenager, a cadet-a nobody-in the body of an old man a general in command of an elite force. ![]()

![]() Tragic, isn’t it, to learn that money can buy anything… but love? Killian’s son, Pierce, is young, impetuous and too ruthless for any young woman to take on as a husband.Įven Killian himself-without a wife for many years but increasingly bored by his mistress-is shocked to learn he can fall in love. His niece, Marianne, is a charming widow who wants for nothing…except perhaps an amusing and temporary lover. They want for nothing, except a chance to find husbands who love them for themselves, not their dowries. His two daughters-Lily and Ada-are beauties, accomplished and educated. Can’t it? When American robber baron Killian Hanniford decides to expand his business empire, he sails to Europe in 1877 and takes his family with him. ![]() Those Notorious Americans, a family headed by a scandalous robber baron, ready to charm all of Europe with their wit, their good looks…and their fortune. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I enjoyed Pucked Love from start to finish, but getting to know Darren and Charlene in detail really made this story for me. I love how the tone of the books turned heavier and more emotional as the series progressed, leading up to Darren and Charlene’s story, the final installment of the Pucked series-and Helena Hunting really did save the best for last. Their story not only made me laugh (because come on, it wouldn’t be a Pucked book without all of the humor), but it was surprisingly touching and made me slightly emotional. Of course, we had to wait until the very end to get the details, but let me tell you, it’s totally worth it. They are THE most mysterious couple in a series ever and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on their story. ![]() ![]() ![]() In Illusions, Richard Bach takes to the air to discover the ageless truths that give our souls wings: that people don’t need airplanes to soar…that even the darkest clouds have meaning once we lift ourselves above them… and that messiahs can be found in the unlikeliest places–like hay fields, one-traffic-light midwestern towns, and most of all, deep within ourselves. For disillusioned writer and itinerant barnstormer Richard Bach, belief is as real as a full tank of gas and sparks firing in the cylinders…until he meets Donald Shimoda–former mechanic and self-described messiah who can make wrenches fly and Richard’s imagination soar…. In the cloud-washed airspace between the cornfields of Illinois and blue infinity, a man puts his faith in the propeller of his biplane. But it’s possible to engage with the 40K fandom with a running start, gathering up bits of its nearly 40-year backstory as you go along. Meanwhile, since the narrative has never been rebooted or retconned, there are few official on-ramps for new players. Fan wikis and forums can be esoteric and packed with proper nouns. Much like real history, it can be hard to piece everything together. Instead, it’s up to the reader to sift through all the dusty - and highly collectible - tomes in order to parse its primary sources. ![]() Just like actual history, no single narrator or historian in the grim darkness of the far future is 100% reliable. Instead, Games Workshop and its publishing arm Black Library has taken the stance that everything ever written about its sprawling lore is “true” - all of it is canon, more or less since its inception in the 1980s. There has been little active curation of Warhammer 40K canon. ![]() ![]() ![]() Urn:lcp:stormbreaker00horo_2:lcpdf:b59e7e1e-d2a9-4656-9d2f-693a4a2512c5 Grades 68: Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz After being recruited by the Secret Intelligence Service, 14-year-old Alex Rider investigates a suspicious businessman. ![]() Access-restricted-item true Addeddate 18:41:25.175202 Bookplateleaf 0004 Boxid IA1289412 Camera Canon EOS 5D Mark II City New York Donorįriendsofthesanfranciscopubliclibrary Edition 1st American ed. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I loved the diverse cast, the concept of the seven deadly sins as a theme for each characters struggle. The formatting of the novel also threw me off big time. ![]() I even felt the amazing writing style that I have come to expect had dimmed significantly. It sort of picked up in the second half, but I still didn’t get that hook I was hoping for. I put the book down repeatedly due to lack of interest. I really struggled with this novel, and it’s doubly disappointing because I really loved all her other title. For the seven unlikely allies at the heart of it all, the collision of their seven ordinary-seeming lives results in extraordinary change. When that scandal bubbles over, and rumors of a teacher-student affair surface, everyone starts hunting for someone to blame. And like every high school, every student has something to hide-from Kat, the thespian who conceals her trust issues onstage, to Valentine, the neurotic genius who’s planted the seed of a school scandal. It’s got the same cliques, the same prejudices, the same suspect cafeteria food. ![]() Paloma High School is ordinary by anyone’s standards. Set in a divided, unnamed city, the novel follows an 18-year-old girl who is being stalked by a sinister and much older man, known locally as “the milkman” (none of the characters are given names). A good example of this is the scene early on in the movie where Bryson visits the outdoor store to get kitted out. ![]() ![]() Movies often rely on visual cues to get the message across but this book fleshes out the details in just the right places to add an extra layer of humour.
